Old 2002 Press Releases

Welcome to the Press room - these are all the press releases we sent out  in year 2002

Yachting and Overground's Sales Director   Edward SC Pascoe flew over to Fort Lauderdale personally  to accompany TONY LANZA of  YOG USA  around the Fort Lauderdale Show  and to see dealers  who might have been interested in YOG products.  He said " After going round the show, I am pleased to  say that there is no-one doing precisely what YOG does  at the Show and this leaves us in a very strong position  to provide what we make  for a very discerning market.  Demonstration  systems were on view at the show and we had one very good meeting on board a vessel  with the Captain who wants to strip out  a lot of Japanese Equipment and provide slave systems on his flybridge.... which is exactly what we are good at."    YOG supplies systems to the USA with MAPTECH software  and one folio of charts as standard,  this  is the same as in Europe where  Navmaster 5.0 is supplied by PC Maritime, but with Admiralty Raster Charts.

YOG is pleased to announce that it now has an American  office, based in Fort Lauderdale. "Home of the biggest boat show in the world, Fort Lauderdale is ideally placed  within the large superyacht   area  of the Eastern Seaboard  to provide support for and distribute the YOG Range of  Marine Computer Systems" said  Alan Clogarty, Group Operations Director.  Headed by  Microsoft Certificated Systems Engineer TONY LANZA,  we can now provide our superlative level of service  for those operators and owners who wish to  say  Goodbye!   to their laptops,  by integrating proper computers  on board, with other systems if necessary.  Tony Lanza can be contacted at YOG USA, 8161 NW 21st Court, Sunrise, Florida 33322, USA   Telephone:  +1 954.749.4384

This will be a downloadable Adobe Acrobat File which will open on your system, from whence you can choose offline.  This will feature a selection of products that we use and that we think are good  Christmas presents.  They will not all necessarily be  computer items either!    Secure online ordering will be available and we will gift wrap the  items too where possible.  They will then be sent to you Friend/Relation  with a nicely  handwritten Christmas card,  in  mid December.   This means that we will send all the presents out  in one go  and they will get to your consignee well in time  for Christmas.   We  do not sell  names and addresses so buyers and  consignees will not receive junk mail.  Click here to go  and shop for Christmas.

YOG announce it has now got CE approval for its Mariner MCD-Series 4 computer system.  This has a PCMCIA slot so it can take a Nokia cardphone which obviates the need for a cabled solution for those customers who use 28.8k on board .   Processor speeds are up to 2Ghz and we are currently testing  with 2.2 Ghz ( not available for general sale yet) .  As usual the entry model is fully loaded  the  normal way, at £3499.00, and includes TV,FM Radio, DVD, and CD, Chart package and 1 folio of charts, UPS, GPS, Microsoft Office XP,  15 inch monitor, slim printer, keyboard and mouse.

We have just installed demo computers in  Offshore Telecom, Hamble Point Marina, Hamble, Southampton, UK showing TV/DVD/FM Radio/CD,  Navmaster  Software by PC Maritime ( Plymouth, England).  Don't forget that  our computers come complete with  Inverter, GPS Receiver and cable, Microsoft Office XP,  a  12 month  Internet connection with  Easynet plc, and come fully set up.  You need  do nothing. Compare that with a Cassius PC, where you will have to go and buy  everything and  try and do it all yourself. Some of our competitors even just quote for old, very basic PCs at a cheap price, and to make them any good  you need to spend alot extra. Companies that do this are Diverse yacht Services, In Hamble.

With YOG,  you even get Office XP and a printer for printing passage plans and we even supply a dedicated HSCSD enabled telephone. Remember that YOG just do marine computers, we don't run a boatyard, so we know what we are good at.

We have now fitted our AMPAIR Pacific  100  WInd generator and  the results are  very good.  We haven't been blessed with huge amounts of wind since we fitted  it, but when it has blown we have recorded  4.5A.   This  Ampair wind generator will  give us up to 8A  which is 7.9A more than the  hopeless previous Forgen wind generator that we had .  Visit Ampair's  web site at  www.ampair.com  and mention YOG marine   when ordering.  We also now sell this product  at £477 plus VAT and delivery

We are now a Genius Power Inverter reseller. We have a 1500w  model on  one of our test boats, which may seem a bit much, but this model  will also startup, and run a good microwave.  This is important because a smaller inverter would trip out on the startup load required with such a device.  Moore Power's website is at www.moore-power.com and they also  do a  great range of other electrical goods. If you order anything from them,  ask for Justin Ecott, and say that YOG sent you. Justin used to work  at Express Marine where we used to by all the bits  for our two test boats, and   now runs Moore Power.  Good luck everyone!

Following a dispute with  Fujitsu Siemens regarding a monitor that stopped working  in month 13  we are advising customers that we are now boycotting this brand as they are obviously not interested in helping customers that have goods that go defective in month 13. We are not interested in selling  goods from Companies such as these and would advise  customers to steer well clear of this brand in major  high street stores  too.  Fujitsu make  hard drives and monitors and also  sell computers at PC World and Dixons.  We can't recommend anyone buy their  products.  It serves them right for being complacent and arrogant and the letters we have been sent have been pathetic trash.    It wouldn't be too difficult for them to replace the monitor on goodwill.  There has also  been  reports in the computer press that one of their hard drives  goes faulty and there has been much comment about the way this has been handled.  PC PRO magazine are also documenting the unreliability  of these drives.

YOG THROWS  BOOK AT SIZE!

London Based Marine Computer Manufacturer YOG has  further reduced the size of its bookshelf PC    by choosing an even smaller case than its previous model.  When on its side in bookshelf mode, the  PC measures 300mm high   and   70 mm wide  which ensures that it can fit into all miniscule  crew cabins  and  look unobtrusive in guest suites, eg. in a bookshelf.  It  also has snap on feet  which can be screwed down if required, depending on the  situation  used and the amount of roll experienced in the vessel Due to the size of components,    performance is limited to 1.3 GHz processors  but  at the  end of the day, it accomplishes its entertaining tasks of TV, FM, Radio, DVD, charting, internet and email  very well.  “It  is the ideal  choice for refitters looking to  computerise complete yachts,”   says  Emma  Read, Head of Marketing and PR.

YOG adds 61 inch screen to product line

London Based manufacturer  of Marine Computer Systems  Yachting and  Overground (YOG)  has added a 61 inch plasma screen to its product line. Intended for  stateroom status  this screen  is excellent for  TV and DVD viewing  aswell as surfing the internet. “Even though plasma gas screens have come down significantly in price  it is still a comparatively expensive screen when you put it alongside a 42 inch screen from someone like FUJITSU  -  but we have sold three within the month  for  fitting out purposes  - so the price tag of  GBP 12,000 (euro 19,200 )  plus taxes and shipping  is still inconsequential to some owners.”  He adds “ the picture is lovely and so it should be for that price”

YOG signals era of faster wireless networking

London  Based Manufacturer Yachting & Overground (YOG)  announce that after testing, it is now offering wireless solutions for yachts and power craft that carry data  at 22 MB/sec  as opposed to the  more widely available 11 MB/sec, over 802.11b  2.4 GHz.    Said Technical Support manager Edward Pascoe “ We’re gradually filling the gap between   landbased and mobile networking.  Expect throughput to go up to 54 MB/sec when we get authorization  to use the 802.11a band which at present and as usual, is only  authorized  abroad.  When the UK get this band later on, we’ll really be motoring!”   The equipment is backwards compatible, which means that customers do not have to change all their  cabin  NIC’s ( network interface cards )  - “ Only the owners cabin and  users that need the  increased bandwith need change, with low priority  users such as catering and deckhands  staying on the  older specification.”   YOG have already  upgraded  a handful of  customers who were willing to be guinea  pigs  and who got free service in lieu of this changover.
