Ian Hornsby has sailed since 1970 and studied naval architecture before moving to France to work in international transport logistics. After four years as office manager he left Paris to become a Yachtmaster Ocean, and one of the early charter captains. During the next 15 years Ian accumulated 100,000 miles as captain, has overseen four new builds and written three technical manuals for the boats he commissioned.

In 1998 he moved ashore to launch Techman and improve the general quality of marine Technical Manuals. Part of the brief was also to create better software tools for the construction, refit and management of pleasure and commercial vessels of all sizes.
